High Park

John Howard, Toronto’s first city surveyor/architect, owned a 165-hectare forest naming it High Park because of its magnificent view of Lake Ontario. Envisioning a recreational area and natural reserve for birds, fish and plants; Howard gave the park to the city. Today, High Park is one of the city’s largest recreation areas and park with bike and hiking trails, snack bars, an adventure playground and many sports fields. Every summer, the amphitheatre hosts a theatre production produced by the Canadian Stage Theatre company.
